Simple equation, Big Mistake.

I wonder if debates as such come up on parliament agendas from time to time, or do we have to be part of the parliament to find out? Like,

1) How much additional tax can be reap from legalizing pot? Pros and cons. Better health care? Better roads? Better education? How would the public react?

2) How much additional tax can be reap from lowering the drinking age to 16? How about 18? Pros and cons. Better health care? Better roads? Better education?

This reminds me of a case study from Uni in which I won't name the company, but it involves either recalling cars that has design faults which could explode at impact, versus the cost of being sued. The company reckons the cost of being sued is lower, so has decided not to recall the faulty cars. Simple equation, Big Mistake.

Dow Jones is going Down!

Dow Jones Industry Average. It represent the average stock prices of 30 of the largest and most widely held public companies in the United States.

Yes the United States. So what has that to do with you if you trade outside of the States?
Arguably little.
But United States being the largest economy in the world - okay, a lot.

What you'll likely find is,

Dow Jones goes up, the world market goes up.
Dow Jones goes down, the world market goes down.

It's that unfair, it can be that simple to know when to buy and sell.

However, as Dow Jones highest index value managed to hit close to 14,000 points July last year, and now it's hovering around a new low of 7,000. That's 50% wealth wiped off the market in less than one year no matter how you try trading against it. That probably says the same about your local indices too.

Problem is? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we? Are we?

Would you prefer that I suck-up?

One of my other fault that drags me in a corporate environment is honesty, it even secretly sneak up on me in my reviews and 1:1s. Do I care? OF COURSE! That determines my future pay checks!

However, I am lucky, and also thankful to have such understanding managers, and mentors; especially the ones that tells me that I can only be myself, and helped me in solving my misery by showing me the way in asking the right questions, for example,

" Would you prefer that I say what you want to hear? Or the truth?"

Simple, yet effective. Now your superiors can only ask for one thing - the truth.

Expect less, Gain more.

I always believe that I am not suited for the corporate life.

However, my first job landed me in a corporate environment of approx. 7,000 staffs, with a global network of approx. 75,000 staffs. After I quit, I insisted on getting what I want. So my very second job consist of a whooping 15 staffs. Yah, I win.

And guess where I end up after one big career roulette later?
Another corporate environment.

Until recently, I have decided to be jobless - Yah, I still win! (obviously pointless)

I think life has funny ways of giving you things that you don't want, or whacking you until you learn - classic saying, "people leave you when you think they will always be there, and people come into your life when you least expected it".

And so the saying goes - Expect less, gain more. Don't you just hate it.

The Horoscope Business

I read horoscopes, and I still do everyday. The only time I didn't, was points in my life when breakfast used to be stuffing two biscuits into my mouth, and coffee on the other hand on the way to another long day (ie. Meetings)

I enjoyed horoscopes, because I'd like to believe that everything happens for a reason even if it's only an excuse to feel better.

Good horoscope authors must understand the fact that people like to feel good about things; so chances are one day they will tell you that your future is bright as a brick, or that love will come your way, or the person who treated you like crap the other day actually didn't mean it. Or that one big break is coming, viola!

AND if you read about it enough, one day that one paragraph, one liner, is bound to answer all that depressed mystery of your life. Convinced? So for an offer of maybe $30, your life can be detailed RIGHT before your eyes, soooo subscribe a report now! Whatever.

Fact is, our lives revolve around simple things even if we like to deny it. Relationships, and Money.

Can't afford an investment?

Rather mind boggling,

"What costs more — a spark plug or a share of General Motors? A Sunday New York Times or a share of the newspaper company? A General Electric toaster or a share of GE?"
